Rountine & Sports Physicals

Routine physicals are routine exams performed in office by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant to assess a person’s current state of health, assist in future health care planning, and administer any necessary treatments if health issues are found.  Common tests that your physician may perform are blood sugar testing, checking blood pressure, cholesterol screening, and an overall physical examination for any visible signs of health issues. Getting physicals performed yearly, if no other health issues are present, can potentially keep your health optimal.

To prepare for a routine exam, we recommend having a list of your current medications on hand as well as the dosage information and how often you take each one. It’s also helpful to have a list prepared of any surgeries you have had performed in the past, names of any other doctors you have seen, and any recent bloodwork results you have had done to share with your physician. This can prevent any unnecessary additional testing and make your visit go even smoother.

At Conroe Family Physicians, we also perform sports physicals. Oftentimes amongst athletes, preparticipation exams are requested before the athlete is allowed to participate in the sport they desire. Among many states, it is a requirement by law. Even when a requirement is not made, it is still highly recommended among trainers and physicians to make sure the participant is at an optimal healthy condition or necessary precautions can be taken if any health conditions are found. In addition to routine physicals, sports physicals check for flexibility, possible use of sports enhancers, and any preexisting conditions that can affect the athlete during their required sports performance.
