Men’s Healthcare
For men, taking care of their health isn’t always a priority. Statistically speaking, men are more likely to go without regular healthcare or check in with a doctor when an issue arises. Without routine checkups and regular screenings, many health issues that face men today can be overlooked leading to larger health issues down the road.
The top medical issues facing men are:
- Cardiovascular Disease- 1 in 4 men have fatal results from heart disease
- Lung Cancer- About 13% of all new cancers are lung cancer and affect men more than women
- Prostate Cancer- Over 200,000 men in 2018 alone have been affected
- Depression/Suicide- It is the 8th leading cause of death among men
- Diabetes- Statistics show men are more likely than women to develop Type 2 Diabetes
Although there are many health issues men face, preventative measures can be taken to get you on the road to good health. For example, getting your blood pressure and cholesterol screened regularly can help diagnose and/or prevent any early signs of heart disease. Cease any smoking habits to prevent lung cancer and minimize your exposure to any indoor smoking. Even if you have been smoking most of your life, quitting can reduce your risk. Exercise regularly to get your heart pumping. Exercising can ward off obesity, help maintain a healthy BMI, and can increase your endorphins to make you feel better. It’s also important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. A diet rich in fiber, vegetables, lean protein, and fresh fruits can lead to an overall well feeling.
